Beyond the Office Door....

Is a shiny floor, a cozy living and dining room, and a sunny kitchen which boasts a Keurig coffee-maker. These are the elements which have sustained me this winter. Plunking away at the keyboard, writing magazine stories for butter factories, winery churches, fertilizer companies, and forestry - can bog one down somewhat. Bring on the sunshine!

All How You See It!

Snow becomes rain. Rain becomes mist. Mist brings on flowers and THAT MEANS SPRING! It can't, won't, wouldn't dare take more than a few days. In the meantime, let's hunker down with a good novel, watch some trash Feb. sweeps tv, reach out and type to a few friends, and celebrate waiting to bust open that cocoon - or window - depending on where you are currently hunkering.

Mind Over Matter

There's what I see....and there's what I WANT to see. We Canadians are doing our best to push through the remains of winter. We want to embrace it, see the snow-laden beauty of it all, but in reality it's much more satisfying to close my eyes, then open them real fast hoping to see thousands of spring blooms. Time marches slowly right now. Perhaps that's what should be savoured.
...but I'd give up my best parka for one blasted tulip!

Voiceover Workshop

Yesterday, I taught a workshop at the local college. Fourteen restless 'almost twenty's' and three hours of voice techniques for radio commercials, interviews etc. We didn't have tools or wood or blowtorches but there were small recording devices and good imaginations. Give or take the one girl booking her train trip online, and another with her eyes closed (she said the computer screen bothered her), I think it went rather well. One man's tool is another man's mini-microphone.

Women of a Certain Age

Before becoming one, do you picture yourself as a saucy middle aged vixen, soaring through life with a healthy perspective and fabulous cheekbones? Sometimes the image is a little difficult to represent...our hair texture betrays us, bags and sags bubble forth when we didn't see them coming, but so long as that wild woman, free of children and bills and disappearing husbands lives inside of us, the outside can grin and bear it!

I Spy....

with my misty eye a river in slumber. Trying to thaw...writhing under the snow, all set to go - and finish it's fast, fierce race to an unfathomable finish.

Before the Thaw

Ice hs melted. The river is starting to run. But it's not to be trusted because this picture through the twig wreath was just two days ago. When it snows, it pours and I fear no wily little groundhog will prevent it.

Prayer Pose I S'pose?

In the hush of a quiet winter night, a contemplative moment starts to form. February is a nonsense month. Betwixt, between, and full of frigid desperation. No Christmas coziness or springtime bounce - just there with it's cold air. Be My Valentine just doesn't make up for the lacklustre days of 2011s second month. No wonder fitness programs fill up - it's the illusion of going somewhere.

My Daughter From Another Mother....and Father.

When families blend, you never know what you're going to get....just like Forest Gump's box of chocolates. In our mixed bag, I was lucky to get one with lots of colour. Bobbi Jo is her own woman - and she loves fire. The girl is positively primal but harmless from what I can see. Just don't get between her and her bonfire. I couldn't begin to guess where you'd land. Hmmm, is that Nigel peeing on Casey? Well, yes it is. Nice to see Bobbi Jo brought her own fire brigade - just in case.

So It Was Kind of Snowy Last Night....

We'd LIKE to put away our Christmas decorations...just got to get at them! Lovely, lovely winter inside and out.

Fe Fi Fo Fum.....

I smell the smoke of a Frozen Canadian!!! Oh he's closing in on fifty, but when met by a mighty snow storm, nothing will prevent my brother from crafting a fully loaded snow fort. Sydney and Colin were thrilled - even finding a bar-b-q lid to use as a door. Why do I feel sure that we'll find a pile of cds and a bucket of KFC chicken bones in there by spring?
