Brought To You By 'Mutual of Omaha'

I feel a bit like Merlin Perkins on that old nature show. I skulk in bushes and behind hammocks, wide angling and long lensing on my little pink pocket Nikon. Well, you can see the results. A bit blurry, but there they are. This year's swan family, sailing in for a gander every day now...and for whatever reason, Nigel and Casey never bark at them. Well, would you?

Treed!

Life's not fair for a no-legged weiner dog. There IS a chipmunk in the tree and it's a long way up. Eventually, it will have to eat....and then be eaten. That's the plan....and...then...it all...just....becomes too much. Strategy rest required.

Father's Day, With A Side of Trent River

A perfect day. The beavers, raccoons, turtles and fat frogs all left us alone for a few hours so that we could honour the fathers...and fathers in waiting. There was fun and food and sunshine and puppies and cats and boats going by. God bless us one and all!

Some People's Pets!!!

By most standards, our grey cat, Ringo is a happy housepet. Oooo, isn't he cute, safely ensconced in our sunporch, stretching his neck out to get a better look at the (ew) turtles walking by...but if you go down our road a piece you'll find emus and ostriches living peacefully among goats and alpacas - just make a noise like a demented bat and they'll come right over and visit. Even further down the road resides a cat who is living out his life as a lion. 'Mystic' lives in a doggy daycare, sporting a shaved mane, tail and paws. Species reassignment? Who knows but he seems happy and he poses for pics. Some days it's best to stay home.

Dandy Day for a Dog Walk

These two don't have to be asked twice....ready and raring to roll at all times - with noses to the smells, off they go. I'm not apt to keep up to their white hot speed (cough) as I prefer to linger over the green hills and bashed in trail signs. The best way to keep an ATV motoring where you least want them, is to post a sign. Oh Canada!

But, ugly....or perhaps BUTT UGLY

So, this maven of maternal serenity is what I was greeted by when I came home this afternoon. She is the size of a pizza. A large pizza. She is muddy and laden with eggs I'm guessing. After a polite 'hello', I stepped past her as Rob loaded her rotund reptilian vessel of grossness into a wheelbarrow and deposited her at the riverside. She was not pleased, reached back, hissed and snapped at him, but missed. How did she get a date, let alone pregnant? What an attitude!!!...but she was here first.

Hot Diggity Doggity HOT

The temp outside is not fit for man nor Nigel. As he lounges inside with a/c, outside a strip of sunshine can be seen working it's way over a field, heating and seering everything as it creeps. Kind of eerie, kind of wow!

Cat's Eye View...and Fade to.....

Were the binoculars there first, or was the cat there first? No matter. Bird-watching is a tedious and sometimes sleep inducing pastime. Sleeping, on the other hand, is a glorious and lingering pastime. No reasoning with cats.

And the Colour of Summer in Ontario is................

...well it doesn't really matter now does it? So long as the day includes leaning back with a sasparilla, thumbing through a few magazines and soaking up our Southern Ontario sunshine, all is right with the world....at least this little section of the world. What's yours look like today?

A Baby Bird in the Bush is Worth....

They're here. They're here. The baby birds have erupted and they're ready for breakfast! Being only three feet off the ground in a small cedar bush will not increase their dining service.....unless they are to be the entree of course! I still don't know what kind of birds they are....soooooooooooooo small. The mom is way smaller than a sparrow. Suggestions?
